Wisconsin


Idling Management
  • Student Transportation Association of Indiana working with Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to continue implementing for a statewide idle reduction policy in school districts.
  • City of Indianapolis/Marion County Vehicle and Equipment Idling Reduction Policy applies to all City-County owned or leased motor vehicles and equipment. With some exceptions, the policy addresses unnecessary vehicle and equipment idling.
State/Local Programs
  • Diesel WISE IndianaExit EPA Disclaimer is working with communities and has Quantity Purchasing Agreement (QPA) for diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC) retrofit technologies. This has included the following:
    • City of Indianpolis provided $42,000 to purchase 50 DOCs on municipal vehicles.
    • Indianapolis Public Library has provided $4,200 to purchase 5 DOCs for library vehicles.
    • IDEM granted the City of Hammond $10,000 for the purchase of 12 DOCs for use on municipal vehicles.
  • IDEM, through the City of Indianapolis, provided $199,500 in 105 Continuing Environmental Program Grants funding to the Indianapolis Public Schools to retrofit 175 district buses with DOCs. Catalysts were purchased through the State of Indiana's QPA.
Clean School BusFunds
  • USEPA awarded $250,000 to IDEM to procure EPA-verified DOCs for about 227 school buses in specific locations.
    • Washington Township School District of Marion County used $39,500 to purchase 47 DOCs through the State of Indiana's QPA.
    • Evansville-Vanderburgh Community Schools used $75,600 to purchase 90 DOCs through the State of Indiana's QPA.
National Funds
  • USEPA provided $125,000 of the total $400,000 funds to IDEM for a competitive grant program aimed at reducing diesel emissions in Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties.
Regional Geographic/Great Cities Funds
  • In 2001, USEPA Region 5 awarded $50,000 to IDEM for school bus retrofits
    • Hammond used $29,000 to purchase 20 DOCs, prior to the State of Indiana's QPA.
    • Portage School District used $21,000 to purchase 25 DOCs through the State of Indiana's QPA.
  • In 2004, USEPA awarded $100,000 to City of Indianapolis for oxidation catalysts for 37 refuse trucks, 7 roll-off trucks and 9 construction equipment.
Department of Transportation or Congestion, Mitigation, and Air Quality (CMAQ) Funds
Supplemental Environment Projects (SEP)
  • Federal/State SEP with Ispat/Inland Steel for $150,000 to retrofit selected fleets with DOCs and diesel particulate filters.
