Grants & Funding

The partners working on the Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative recognize the importance of identifying funding opportunities for reducing diesel emissions from the legacy fleet of engines. In addition to federal funds, there also are funds found through Non-Profit Organizations as well as State-Specific funding opportunities.

The following are federal funding opportunities for diesel retrofit and idle reduction projects.

Special Requirements: A Request for Proposals will be announced annually that lists specific eligibility and proposal requirements. Generally, eligible applicants include States, Federally Recognized Indian Tribes and Tribal Consortia, international organizations, public and private universities and colleges, hospitals, laboratories, and other public or private nonprofit institutions.

Program Name: Railroad Rehabilitation & Improvement Financing (RRIF)
Source: DOT- Federal Railroad Administration
Funding Type: Loan
Frequency: Ongoing
Special Requirements: Eligible borrowers include railroads, state and local governments, government-sponsored authorities and corporations,joint ventures that include at least one railroad, and limited option freight shippers who intend to construct a new rail connection.
