Environmental and Sustainable Technology Evaluations (ESTE)
The Environmental and Sustainable Technology Evaluations (ESTE) projects were one-time funding opportunities to directly respond to EPA's need for credible performance information on technologies that addressed high-risk environmental problems. ESTE maintained:
- the quality assurance,
- stakeholder involvement, and
- cost-sharing that are fundamental operating principles of ETV.
Under ESTE, the prioritized verification categories were chosen by the Office of Research and Development (ORD) with program office and regional office support. ORD project managers directed the verifications using contractor support. All environmental technology categories were considered under ESTE.
Projects
- Technologies for rehabilitation of drinking water distribution and wastewater collection systems
- Microbial-resistant building materials
- Pesticide drift reduction technologies
- Performance characteristics of qualitative spot test kits for lead in paint (completed 2010)
- Fuel characteristics and emissions from biomass co-fired boilers (completed 2008)
- Portable optical and thermal imaging devices for leak detection
at petroleum refineries and chemical plants (completed 2008) - Radio frequency identification tracking of hazardous wastes
across international borders (completed 2008)
