Join us to learn ‘first-hand’ from local community stakeholders about the toolkit developed as a direct result of a community pilot titled: ‘Food: Too Good to Waste’. This toolkit can be customized and used by any interested local government or community group. By viewing this webinar you will hear and learn:
- How the West Coast Climate and Materials Management Forum communities collaborated to develop this toolkit focusing on 5 key waste prevention behaviors to reduce wasteful household food habits
- How development of this toolkit resulted in both cost savings and environmental benefits
- At a retail value of $125 billion annually, Americans throw away about ¼ of all food purchases
- FACT: A family of four can save more than $1,600 a year by making small changes in how they shop, prepare and store food to prevent food waste
- Food is among the single largest, yet the least recovered, waste streams in the U.S.
- How this toolkit is tailor-able and can be used by any interested local government or community.

Carl Woestwin Carl works at Seattle Public Utilities. He is currently the Project Manager for the ‘One Less Truck Pilot (every other week garbage collection. Carl has worked on food recovery grants and home food composting programs, and is currently working on a residential food waste weighing pilot. Ashley Zanolli Ashley works at the US EPA, Region 10 in Seattle. She currently co-leads the West Coast Climate and Materials Management Forum, a regional partnership of western communities working together to drive climate action through materials management. Over the past two years Ashley has been leading the development of the community food waste prevention pilot program, known as Food: Too Good to Waste, with over 25 EPA, state, and local government partners. Although the focus of this project is on residential food waste, Ashley also helps implement EPA's Sustainable Food Management Program with commercial businesses in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Lisa Jensema Lisa is the Recycling and Resource Recovery Coordinator, and assists the Director in Program implementation for the regional Regional Agency. Lisa previously worked for the city of Gilroy as an Environmental Program Coordinator responsible for AB 939 compliance and storm water programs. Lisa has been in this field for 20 years. Karen May Karen manages several education and outreach programs for the Recycling and Environmental Services section of the King County Solid Waste Division including King County’s Master Recycler Composter volunteer program and recycling collection events. Karen is a member of King County’s strategy to reduce residential food waste in collaboration with US EPA Region 10’s pilot program ‘Food: Too Good to Waste’. Lisa Friend Lisa is a Sustainability Planner for Boulder County, Colorado and has been designing waste reduction outreach programs for more than 20 years.
