Superfund Program. EPA's Superfund program has located, analyzed and worked to clean up thousands of hazardous waste sites since 1980. Today, the six New England states have 115 toxic and hazardous waste sites on the Superfund National Priority List (NPL). Learn more about New England's Superfund program.
Recovery Act of 2009. The Recovery Act will direct additional dollars to help protect people and the environment from contamination at our worst sites by expediting the pace of clean-up so our land and environment will more quickly be ready to return to productive use.
Funding for site cleanup provides for construction jobs as well as future economic development as property is reused. It also helps to involve states, Tribes, local communities and other partners to formulate plans for the future use of these once off-limit properties.
