Waste Site Cleanup & Reuse in New England

Getting Involved

Brownfields have become a national priority as cities struggle to revitalize and accommodate growing populations in order to reduce sprawl and protect greenspace. With so much activity at the federal, state, and local government levels to reclaim and reuse this land, how can the average citizen become involved?

  • Attend meetings. Check the newspaper for announcements or public notices on hearings for new redevelopment projects.
  • Join community groups. Look for groups that are involved in community planning, revitalization efforts, or community redevelopment.
  • Contact your local officials. Mayors, city managers, selectmen, city councilors, or other local officials may be able to give you insight into local government redevelopment plans as well as private sector activities.
  • Do additional research. Find out more information on brownfields redevelopment in your area by contacting your state or local brownfields representative.
