C-FERST

C-FERST Issue Profile: Residential Pesticides

Household pesticide products can be used to control a variety of pests, such as insects, weeds, rats and mice, bacteria and mold, and more. By their nature, many pesticides can pose some risk to humans, animals, or the environment, however the risk of exposure is low as long as products are kept out of reach of children and pets, and used according to label directions.

Under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA), EPA is responsible for regulating pesticides and ensuring that they do not pose unintended or unreasonable risks to humans, animals and the environment.
