Environmental Justice Small Grants Program

Grants & Programs Topics
Resources For Communities

Overview

Since its inception in 1994, the Environmental Justice Small Grants Program has awarded more than $24 million in funding to over 1400 community-based organizations, and local and tribal organizations working with communities facing environmental justice issues.

The Environmental Justice Small Grants Program supports and empowers communities working on solutions to local environmental and public health issues. The program assists recipients in building collaborative partnerships to help them understand and address environmental and public health concerns in their communities. Successful collaborative partnerships involve not only well-designed strategic plans to build, maintain, and sustain the partnerships, but also working towards addressing the local environmental and public health issues.

2015 Request for Applications

The FY2015 EJ Small Grant solicitation is now open until January 9, 2015. The total estimated amount of funding available for awards under this solicitation is approximately $1,200,000. EPA anticipates awarding up to four grants per EPA region in amounts of up to $30,000 per award for a one year project period.

EPA recognizes the critical role of helping communities with localized strategies to avoid, lessen, or delay the risks and impacts associated with our changing climate. As a result, this year’s program will have a special emphasis on proposals supporting community-based preparedness and resilience efforts (community climate resiliency). The agency is also prioritizing funding to organizations that have not recently received an award under the EJ Small Grant Program in an effort to ensure that support reaches new areas.
