The Environmental Protection Agency-Wide Plan to Provide Solid Waste Management Capacity Assistance to Tribes (PDF) (38 pp, 368 KB) (The Plan) is a strategy for building tribal capacity to manage solid waste. The Plan promotes the development and implementation of integrated waste management plans, a top priority of EPA's tribal solid waste efforts, and describes how EPA will prioritize its resources to maximize environmental benefits. The Plan implements the recommendations made by a March 2011 EPA Office of Inspector General (OIG) Evaluation Report, EPA Needs an Agency-Wide Plan to Provide Tribal Solid Waste Management Capacity Assistance (PDF). EPA has initiated formal consultation and coordination with federally recognized Indian tribes on the draft new tribal waste management performance measure: "Number of tribes where waste management program capacity has been improved through EPA technical assistance".
