When starting a residential recycling program, you should contact your state or municipal solid waste management office. They can help you develop a program customized to your community’s needs. It is also helpful to form a “recycling green team” of community members interested in supporting a recycling program. Your community may form this team through your homeowners association.

- EPA maintains a list of all the solid waste programs throughout the country.
- Earth 911 maintains a database with comprehensive and specific recycling information for cities and towns in the United States.
- For the Northeast states, the Northeast Recycling Council maintains information on member representative and state environmental protection divisions.
- The Paper Industry Association Council has information about starting a paper recycling program in your community, along with other resources about paper recycling.
- The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) connects recycling professionals and advocates across the country. Contact NRC’s affiliated recycling organizations to find local assistance for starting a recycling program near you.
