air monitoring in California
General information on the studies from the California Air Resources Board (CARB)
Starting in 1999, Cal/EPA studied potential asbestos exposures in the Garden Valley area. The Garden Valley study evaluated quarries and unpaved roads as potential airborne asbestos sources. The study concluded that use of asbestos-containing rock to surface unpaved roads is the largest source of airborne asbestos exposures in the area. At the present time, OEHHA and DTSC are completing an assessment of risks from roads in the Garden Valley area surfaced with asbestos-containing rock.
