Mercury in Industry
National Information

Mercury is a naturally occurring element that is used in the production of certain products, such as fluorescent lamps and thermostats and is also an unintended by-product of some manufacturing processes such as the making of chlorine products and gold mining. Many industries recycle the mercury they collect from their processes and it is sold back to the market for use by manufacturers.
Programs are available to help certain industries reduce or eliminate mercury in their manufacturing processes and wastes.
