EPA Goal 2: Protecting America’s Waters |
Purpose
The Department of Interior National Park Service is a Federal partner of the Great
Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory. The Great Lakes Environmental Research
Laboratory conducts high-quality research and provides scientific leadership on
important issues in both Great Lakes and marine coastal environments leading
to new knowledge, tools, approaches, awareness and service.

Geographic Program: Great Lakes Restoration Initiative:
The goal of the Great Lakes (GL) Program is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the
Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem as required by the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and the Clean Water Act. EPA leads 16 federal
agencies in development and implementation of a GL Restoration Initiative to achieve that goal, including overseeing international
commitments in the GL Water Quality Agreement. GL Restoration Initiative funding is provided through EPA's GL National
Program Office, as described below.
