Purpose
USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), in cooperation with land-grant
university partners and diverse stakeholders, provides leadership and funding for
aquaculture research, technology development, and extension programs. NIFA's funding
of scientific and technology transfer goals to support development of a globally competitive
U.S. aquaculture industry includes: (1) improving the efficiency of U.S.
aquaculture production; (2) improving aquaculture production systems; (3)
improving the sustainability and environmental compatibility of aquaculture
production; (4) ensuring and improving the quality, safety, and variety
of aquaculture products for consumers; (5) improving the marketing of U.S.
aquaculture products; and (6) improving information dissemination,
technology transfer, and access to global information and technology in
aquaculture. NIFA works in close partnership with and funds operating costs
and grants for five regional aquaculture centers (RACs).

Pesticides: Protect Human Health:
Protecting the Human Health from pesticide risk will be accomplished by implementing our statutes and taking regulatory actions to ensure pesticides continue
to be safe and available when used in accordance with the label.
Laboratory activities for the pesticides program support the goal of protecting the environment from pesticide use through three pesticides
laboratories: an analytical chemistry laboratory, a microbiology laboratory at the Environmental Science Center at Fort Meade, MD, and an
environmental chemistry laboratory at Stennis Space Center, Bay St. Louis, MS.
The Agency is working to reduce its carbon footprint by promoting green travel practices and moving routine meetings to a web or video
conference format. In order to be successful, strategic investments in video/web conferencing capabilities are necessary to create
multi-use conference rooms in selected locations, as well as the needed internet capacity.
