Energy Information Administration
Purpose
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is the statistical and analytical
agency within the U.S. Department of Energy. EIA collects, analyzes, and disseminates
independent and impartial energy information to promote sound policymaking,
efficient markets, and public understanding of energy and its interaction with
the economy and the environment. EIA is the nation's premier source of energy
information and, by law, its data, analyses, and forecasts are independent
of approval by any other officer or employee of the U.S. Government.

Research: Air, Climate and Energy:
The Air, Climate and Energy (ACE) Research Program promotes innovative, sustainable, and integrated solutions to air pollution
and climate change. ACE provides models and tools necessary for policy makers at all levels of community and government to
make the best decisions.
ACE’s integrated research supports the Agency’s implementation of the Clean Air Act, especially the National Ambient
Air Quality Standards, which set limits on how much tropospheric ozone, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur
dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and lead are allowed in the atmosphere. The program also evaluates the risks associated
with hazardous air pollutants, also known as air toxics. ACE is an active participant in the U.S. Global Change
Research Program (USGCRP), the interagency Federal effort to improve scientific understanding of climate change
and global change.
Beginning in FY2012, the following Research Programs will be integrated into the Air, Climate and Energy Research Program:
