Environmental Assessment and Prediction Mission
Purpose
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Environmental Assessment
and Prediction Missions help model air emissions. For this mission, NOAA envisions
integrated environmental observation, assessment, and forecast services that
enhance public safety and the Nation's economic
and environmental security.

State and Local Prevention and Preparedness:
Preparedness: Develop, regulations, guidance and tools to support state and local governments through the State
Emergency Response Commission (SERC) and Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) structure. Also provide technical
assistance to these entities to assess chemical risks, develop and revise emergency response plans and make
chemical information available to the public.
Prevention: Prepare regulations, guidance and provide assistance to industry to achieve compliance with
the Risk Management Program (RMP). Assist state and local governments in their effort to develop and implement
a program and provide support to regions that operate a federal program in lieu of a state-run program.
