Biodiversity and Human Health: a Multidisciplinary Approach to Examining the Links
14-15 September 2006
Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC

EPA launched the biodiversity and human health research initiative at its 2006 event: Biodiversity and Human Health: a Multidisciplinary Approach to Examining the Links. In co-sponsorship with Yale's Center for EcoEpidemiology, the Smithsonian Institution, and the World Conservation Union, EPA/NCER convened an interdisciplinary forum of researchers, practitioners, and decisionmakers in ecology, public health, remote sensing, and the social sciences. We discussed the state of the science, refined research priorities, and began discussions on how to integrate existing data into a monitoring and risk-forecasting network on biodiversity change and human health risks.

The event brought together experts from a variety of disciplines, academia, nongovernmental organizations, and management agencies from the United States and abroad to share expertise and information and to consider new approaches to characterize the relationship between biodiversity and human health.

This forum was part of a series on contemporary issues related to the environment and health sponsored by the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies, Center for EcoEpidemiology.
