EPA/NCER sees a unique opportunity to foster interdisciplinary research to scientifically characterize the links between changes in biodiversity and risks to human health. Research on the links between biodiversity and infectious disease can have an important impact on our view of biodiversity, the services provided by natural ecosystems, how we manage these resources, and how we may help reduce the incidence of disease.

The joint Office of Pesticide Programs – Office of the Science Advisor solicitation “Pesticide Registration Improvement Renewal Act (PRIA 2)” supports partnership grants that can inform IPM guidance and stewardship programs under 3 sectors: Agriculture, Community, and Infectious Diseases. The goal of the IPM grants is to develop public-private partnerships focused on reducing the risks associated with the use of pesticides through stewardship efforts. There is a clear need for new tools and strategies under IPM, and land use strategies have been identified as effective pest control vehicles under IPM.  For example, projects under the Infectious Diseases sector can test the feasibility of new environmental and landscape-based IPM strategies to control pests of public health importance.
