April 27-28, 2016: A Visit to the San Francisco Bay Area

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy travelled to the San Francisco Bay Area last week. She met with a number of local green tech champions, including renewable energy innovators. She promoted EPA's new Safer Choice label, which gives consumers the information they need to select products that are safer for their families, their pets and the environment. She also visited an environmental learning center in one of San Francisco's environmental justice communities.

Administrator McCarthy started her visit with a tour of the NEXTracker/Solaria solar panel manufacturing facilities in Fremont, CA. (1 of 9)

Next stop on the clean energy tour in Fremont was a visit to Tesla Motors. The Administrator got to learn about their electric cars and see how they are made in Tesla’s 5 million square foot facility, the site of a former General Motors/Toyota automotive assembly plant. (3 of 9)

As part of the tour, Administrator McCarthy took a spin in one of Tesla's Model S electric all-wheel drive cars. (4 of 9)

Next morning, Administrator McCarthy joined a breakfast hosted by Greenopia and Code Blue Innovations to highlight EPA's Safer Choice label. (5 of 9)

Outside Cole Hardware in San Francisco, Administrator McCarthy was interviewed about Safer Choice by a reporter from NTD-TV. (7 of 9)

Administrator McCarthy wrapped up her visit with a stop at the EcoCenter at Heron's Head Park. Located on the former site of an abandoned brownfield, the EcoCenter serves as a learning center for community youth about energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, green infrastructure and green building.
