  Lower Mississippi Delta Initiative: Describes large-scale conservation and restoration initiative for the lower Mississippi River, includes contact information. Not much information, but may provide a good reference.

 Clean Water Action Plan: Describes Kentucky's methods for assessing "critical watershed" status to waters of the state.Reference information, no restoration information.

 Wetland Mitigation Guidelines: Reference information for Kentucky's wetland mitigation guidelines. Reference information to assist mitigators, no real restoration information.

The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program: This partnership between EPA and the state of Louisiana was created under the National Estuary Program. The program's charter was to develop a coalition of government, private, and commercial interests to identify problems, design pollution control strategies, recommend corrective actions, and seek implementation commitments for the preservation of Louisiana's Barataria and Terrebonne basins. The program focuses on developing sustained citizen involvement in activities such as educational field trips, vegetation planting campaigns, and cleanup efforts. The web site also provides wetland-related scientific and educational materials. This site would be useful for anyone seeking scientific information on the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary or for groups interested in visiting the estuary for themselves.

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana: The Coalition was created to restore and preserve the delta ecosystem of the Mississippi River Delta. The coalition has raised awareness of the need to restore the delta; played a major role in selecting restoration projects under the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act; and worked to eliminate problems standing in the way of project completion. This site provides information on getting involved in Louisiana coastal restoration and publishes newsletters and reports highlighting coastal restoration.

Louisiana Department of Natural Resources: Save Louisiana Wetlands: This web site offers information about the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Coastal Management Division's Save Louisiana's Wetlands program. The many facets of the program are outlined in detail. This site would be useful for anyone interested in wetland protection, particularly along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

 Southeastern Louisiana University Wetlands Research Laboratory: This is the home page for this wetlands research group. It highlights a bald cypress swamp restoration, offers volunteer opportunities, includes contacts, and includes links to other sites, including a wetlands biogeochemistry page. This site is entertaining and informative. There are some great photographs here as well.

  Lake Ponchartrain Basin Foundation: This site offers information on many different projects within the Lake Ponchartrain basin area, including links to WMAs, etc., many provide contact information. Some of the graphics here may not work, but there is a lot of information. Make sure you check out "Everyday ways to help save our lake", and "Learn about the lake" (where the projects are listed). This comprehensive site is definitely worth a visit.

  Lower Mississippi Delta Initiative: A description of the large-scale habitat protection and restoration program. Highlight problems, actions taken, groups involved, and includes contact information. Informative, though not completely thorough.

  Louisiana DNR: restoration projects by parish: Listing of Louisiana coastal restoration projects according to parish (in LA, the state is organized into parishes instead of counties). Some have links to documents in Acrobat format, most are just a project name and other state use codes. Good resource for finding out what's out there, but not a lot of information.

 Louisiana DNR: The Louisiana DNR home page. Links to Atchafalaya Basin program and coastal wetland restoration program.Nice looking page, and helpful. Has some nice links, too.

  Status Report on the Crevasse Program at Delta National Wildlife Refuge: Discussion of the success of creating marsh areas along the Mississippi River through man-made crevasses (breaks in levees). Good discussion of a successful program.

Friends of Scarborough Marsh: This site details the efforts of a coalition of private citizens and organizations working to protect Scarborough Marsh, a 3,100-acre salt marsh just south of Portland, Maine. This site provides detailed information about the marsh and why it needs to be restored.

The Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment: The mission of the Gulf of Maine Council is to maintain and enhance environmental quality in the Gulf of Maine and to allow for sustainable resource use by existing and future generations. The web site provides links to habitat restoration grants, a discussion forum, and a calendar of events. This site would be useful for anyone planning a restoration effort in the Gulf of Maine or seeking to learn more about restoration efforts there.

  How Are They Doing?: status of wetland banking agreements and activities: EPA Region 1 overview of wetland banking activities listed by state. Not much information, but lets you know what ideas are out there.

 Bureau of Land and Water Quality (Maine): This is Maine's BLWQ home page that links to grant information, watershed information, the state DEP site (with regs), and much more information. Not much restoration information, but links to a lot of other potentially helpful information.

   Coastal Habitat Restoration, overview: Overview of several New England marsh restoration efforts and other similar efforts. Page gives you access to the complete report in Acrobat form. Links to a Gulf of Maine web page. Very complete discussion-even in the overview. This will be an important source of information for any similar projects.

 Gulf of Maine-Council on the Marine Environment: Overview of Gulf of Maine watershed with color maps and diagrams, contacts, calendar of events. Beautiful, well-organized site with lots of information on the gulf; no restoration information, though.

 Bates College Environmental Studies Program: Overview of this academic department in a Maine college. Information that might be helpful in the professor profiles and contact information. No additional information, though.

  Big Bog Wetland Restoration: Brief form overview of this wetland restoration project with contact information. There isn't much information here, but contacting the state biologist listed on the page might provide you some additional information.

Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay: Alien Invaders: Alien Invaders is a special feature presented in the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Journal. The article describes six common invaders to the bay and also provides a watch list of other problematic plants and animals becoming more prevalent in the Chesapeake Bay area. This site would be useful for anyone interested in working to prevent destruction by alien species.

Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Conservation Landscaping: A BayScapes Homeowner's Guide: This site provides a practical step-by-step guide to creating Chesapeake Bay beneficial landscaping. This site addresses environmentally sound lawns, lawn alternatives, tree and shrub selection, and pest management. This site would be useful to any homeowner who wishes to create environmentally friendly landscaping in their backyard.

Chesapeake Bay Foundation: This foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the Chesapeake Bay through education and environmental protection and restoration. This site provides news and resources about the bay, opportunities to get involved in restoration activities, environmental education materials, and a report of the status of the bay. Would be useful to people seeking information about the Chesapeake Bay, the steps being taken to restore it, and what they can do to help.

Environmental Concern, Inc.: This Maryland based, nonprofit organization provides a variety of wetland services, including design consulting, construction, native wetland nursery plants, educational materials, professional courses, and horticultural research. This site provides information useful for people working with on-the-ground restoration projects.

The Maryland Department of the Environment Wetlands and Waterways Program: This web page includes extensive information about Maryland's efforts to protect and restore wetlands. This site discusses Maryland's Wetland Conservation Plan and restoration initiatives; it also offers an extensive list of training and education resources. Would be useful to anyone wanting to view an example of a successful state-level wetland management program.

Maryland Surf Your Watershed: This web site contains information catalogued on a watershed basis to assist with watershed planning, management, conservation, and restoration projects. Information provided by the site includes watershed indicators of human stressors (including wetland losses), watershed profiles, restoration action strategies, and a bibliography of watershed documents. This site would be useful for anyone seeking information, strategies, and data on restoring watersheds.

  The Chesapeake Bay Program: http://www.chesapeakebay.net/index.cfm) Page which provides significant background on the Bay and highlights projects under way. There is a lot of information here; this is a site you should get lost in. Make sure to check out the "Tributary Strategies" page, and the "nutrient reduction practices" link from that page.

 Massachusetts Wetlands Restoration Program: The Massachusetts Wetlands Restoration Program (MWRP) was established in 1994 within the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) to implement a voluntary non-regulatory) program for restoring the Commonwealth’s wetlands. MWRP inventories wetlands restoration sites within watersheds and coastal regions, and facilitates the implementation of priority restoration projects through its GROWetlands (Groups Restoring Our Wetlands) Initiative. Once a restoration project is accepted into the program, MWRP, in collaboration with its many federal, corporate, and non-profit partners, works with the project sponsor to provide or obtain whatever assistance – financial, technical, monitoring or other support - is required to complete the project.

The Buzzard's Bay Project Natural Estuary Program Wetland Protection Page: This web page provides a wide range of information on the Buzzard's Bay Project in Massachusetts. Information includes specific steps planned to restore this estuary, constructed and restored wetland information, and program partnership information. This site is a good example of a current large-scale estuary protection program.

 Blackstone River National Heritage Corridor: Describes the factors polluting the river, and efforts underway to restore it, with contact information. Good overview.

  Association of Massachusetts Wetland Scientists: Resource for wetland scientists in New England. May provide contacts and restoration information specific to this area of the country.

 Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management: Resource for coastal programs; includes contact information. Specific to coastal problems.

  Bureau of Resource Protection: wetlands and waterways program: State page outlining programs in wetlands and waterways protection. Includes policy information and contacts. Good resource, not much restoration information.

The Huron River Watershed Council: This coalition of Huron Valley residents and local governments was established under Michigan's Local River Management Act. Its members seek to protect, rehabilitate, and sustain the Huron River System. The site provides information on programs offered and opportunities to get involved, and is an example of a community-based watershed and wetland protection program.

Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Wetland Page: This site contains information on wetland identification, regulation, permits, restoration, and education, as well as links to other wetland information. It contains a broad range of information from basic descriptions of wetlands to how to obtain a permit and other technical topics.

The Rouge River Project. The Rouge River National Wet Weather Demonstration Project is a comprehensive program to manage wet weather pollution to restore the water quality of the Rouge River. The identification, protection, and restoration of wetland habitat in Michigan's Rouge River watershed is an important component of the ongoing Rouge River Project. Check out this web site to learn about the Project's subwatershed wetland protection plans and other efforts to meet the project's wetland goals.

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council. This group of citizens, lake associations, businesses, and resort visitors works to protect the waters of northern Michigan. The Council seeks to maintain the environmental integrity and economic and aesthetic values of the lakes, streams, wetlands, and ground water of northern Michigan. The council provides water quality analysis and modeling, technical and consultation services, and conservation and resource planning to Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, and Emmet counties in Northern Michigan.

Minnesota Waterfowl Association. This nonprofit organization preserves, restores, develops, enhances, and protects Minnesota's wetlands and associated uplands through public education, legislative initiatives, and projects to benefit waterfowl, wildlife, and the environment. The site has information on stream restoration workshops, as well as technical information. This site would be useful for anyone wishing to get involved in wetland restoration in Minnesota, or as an example of what a community can accomplish if it works together.

Minnesota Department of Agriculture Wetland Restoration. This website gathers and provides information on Minnesota's wetlands, including funding and technical assistance and conservation practices. The site offers information of particular interest to Minnesota farmers who are interested in conserving wetlands.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' Stream Habitat Program. This program gathers and provides information on Minnesota's 90,000 miles of rivers and streams, helping to protect and restore them. The site offers a link to many publications that would useful for restoration projects; the publications address topics such as native and exotic plants, ecosystem restoration, and wetland protection. This site would be useful for anyone interested in restoration in northern climates.

Minnesota Waters. Minnesota Waters is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Minnesotans keep their lakes and streams healthy. The organization seeks to complete this mission by connecting people with restoration projects, monitoring water quality, and encouraging conservation of riverside lands. This site would be useful for anyone seeking information on river restoration in Minnesota or looking for encouraging stories of past successes.

University of Minnesota Duluth Peatland/Wetland Restoration and Creation Research. This site provides information from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, on peatland and wetland restoration research, including current projects, reports, and publications. This site is useful for anyone seeking information on peatland and wetland restoration and creation in Minnesota.

University of Minnesota Restoration and Reclamation Review. This site provides a listing of on-line student journals from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, with restoration/reclamation-related articles from 1996 through 2003. This site is useful for anyone seeking journal articles on large-scale restorations; agricultural, urban, and residential landscapes; drastically altered land; and environments with low resiliency.

  Evaluation of Restored Wetlands in the Prairie Pothole Region: This web page serves as an invitation to aid in a large scale study of wetland restoration in this multi-state area.   The Rebirth of Stang Lake: This site gives an overview of a wetland restoration project from the site's initial degradation through its completion, and gives contact information. This is an excellent example of a start-to-finish wetland restoration. The methodology included is understandable, and contact information will enable you to get more information on the status of the project.

 Protecting the Mighty Mississippi at its Source: Brief article in the Nonpoint Source News-Notes discusses a community effort to ensure high water quality at the source of the Mississippi River in Minnesota. Restoration information focuses on reducing non-point-sources, and controlling erosion.

 Restoring Wetland Habitat at Duluth's Grassy Point: Thorough discussion of a wetland restoration project with concepts (history, restoration techniques, photographs, etc...) divided into separate page links. This site is well-organized and very informative.

Missouri Department of Natural Resources Wetlands Page. This site provides descriptions of plants and animals often present in Missouri wetlands, as well as information on the restoration and management of both large and small wetlands. This site would be useful to anyone wishing to learn more about wetlands or looking for easy-to-understand methods of restoring wetlands.

Missouri Stream Team. Missouri's Stream Team program is an opportunity for residents near the Missouri River to get involved in river and stream conservation. Stream Team volunteers monitor water quality, conduct stream cleanups and restoration projects, and teach the public on how to better preserve our streams. This site provides practical information for Missouri Stream Team members as well as those wishing to get involved in the Stream Team program.

 MoRAP Project: Restoration and Protection of Missouri River Wetlands: The objective of this project is to aid protection and restoration efforts along the Missouri River by creating up-to-date digital data outlining the location and type of existing wetlands and potential restoration sites. Great information on the project, including the final report and maps.

Montana Water. This site, designed and maintained by the Montana Water Center, Montana State University, Bozeman, serves as a comprehensive resource for those working with Montana water resources. The site includes an on-line database of technical watershed resources, a database of grants and other funding resources, information about policy and legislation, educational resources, and links to maps and other resources. This site would be useful for anyone looking for information about water issues in Montana and other northwestern states.

New Mexico Department of Environment Watershed Protection.
