Composting

Note: EPA no longer updates this information, but it may be useful as a reference or resource.

Composting presents an important opportunity for expanding your current recycling program. Composting is nature’s way of recycling organic matter, such as food scraps and yard trimmings, through decomposition. Through composting, organics are recycled into a nutrient-rich soil amendment similar to fertilizer. While similar to recycling, additional factors must be taken into consideration when developing a food scraps composting program.

Please visit EPA’s Composting Website for more information on composting.
