Ozone Air Quality Data by Area

Information provided for informational purposes onlyNote: EPA no longer updates this information, but it may be useful as a reference or resource.

Areas Are Listed First

Then Lone Counties Are Listed by State

Report Date: December 1997

Notes: Data are mostly from 1994-96. Some 1993-95 data was used in certain situations(see the TSD). Data for a few areas affected by 1995-97 are included. (See end of this document or the TSD). Design value is in parts per billion (ppb). There is a violation when the expected exceedance rate is greater than 1. A blank indicates the expected exceedance rate is 0. The design value and expected exceedance rate are the highest for the area; therefore, they may come from different monitors.

Areas With Data Violating in 1995-97 and No Violation in 1994-96

Based on 1995-97 data, the 1-hour standard will still apply to the following areas:

Jefferson County, TN

The county is adjacent to the Knoxville, TN MSA and is violating the 1-hour standard during 1995-97. The monitor (47-089-0001) has a daily maximum 1-hour concentration of 132 ppb in 1995, 127 and 125 ppb in 1996, and a 138 ppb in 1997. If there are complete data in 1997, the design value would be 125 ppb and the expected exceedance rate would be 1.3 (which is a violation). All exceedances are in AIRS.

Kent and Queen Anne's Counties, MD

The monitor (24-029-0002) is violating the 1-hour standard during 1995-97. In 1995 there was one exceedance (135 ppb) and in 1997 there were four exceedances (148, 139, 129, and 126 ppb). If there are complete data in 1997, the design value would be 129 ppb and the expected exceedance rate would be 1.7 (which is a violation). All exceedances are in AIRS.

For the areas listed below, the 1997 data are reported from sources other than AIRS and may not be quality assured. If the data is determined to be incorrect and the area has no violations, the 1-hour standard will be revoked after complete 1997 data are available.

Kansas City, KS-MO

The monitor (29-047-0005) in Clay Co., MO, is violating the 1-hour standard during 1995-97. In 1995 there were three exceedances ( 161, 131, and 128 ppb) and in 1997 there was one exceedance of 133 ppb. If there are complete data in 1997, the design value would be 128 ppb and the expected exceedance rate would be 1.3 (which is a violation). As of this date the 1997 exceedance is not in AIRS.

DeSoto County, MS (Memphis)

The monitor (28-033-0002) is violating the 1-hour standard during 1995-97. In 1996 there were three exceedances ( 145, 145, and 139 ppb) and in 1997 there was one exceedance of the 1-hour standard at 131 ppb. If there are complete data in 1997, the design value would be 131 and the expected exceedance rate would be 1.3 (which is a violation). As of this date the 1997 exceedance is not in AIRS.

Lancaster, PA

The monitor (42-071-0007) is violating the 1-hour standard during 1995-97. In 1995 there was one exceedance (125 ppb) and in 1997 there were three exceedances (139, 133, and another exceedance greater than 124 ppb). If there are complete data in 1997, the design value would be 125 ppb and the expected exceedance rate would be 1.3 (which is a violation). As of this date the 1997 exceedances are not in AIRS.

Amador County, CA

The monitor (06-005-0002) is violating the 1-hour standard during 1995-97. In 1995 there was one exceedance (146 ppb), in 1996 there were two exceedances (127 and 127 ppb) and in 1977 there was one exceedance (135 ppb). If there are complete data in 1997, the design value would be 127 ppb and the expected exceedance rate would be 1.3 (which is a violation). All exceedances are in AIRS.
