ORD Regional Science Program »
The Regional Science Program (RSP) links the Research and Development Program with EPA's regional offices. The program, managed by ORD's Office of Science Policy, is implemented by a small headquarters staff and two teams of scientists and engineers located in each EPA region, the Regional Science Liaisons (RSLs) and the Superfund and Technology Liaisons (STLs). In Region 9, the RSL is Matt Small (small.matthew@epa.gov) and the STL is Mike Gill (gill.michael@epa.gov).
The program emphasizes building networks and partnerships between regional and ORD scientists, the effective transfer of research results on high priority regional science issues, and outreach to states. The Regional Science Program focuses on five key activities:
- Manage the Regional Applied Research Effort (RARE) and Regional Methods (RM) programs
- Plan and conduct the Regional Science Topic Workshop series
- Manage the Regional Research Partnership (RRPP) Program
- Plan and conduct the EPA Product Expo series
- Facilitate the communication of ORD science to the regions.
Regional Intranet Science Portal »
This EPA-only intranet web portal provides information about - and a connection to - the scientists and engineers conducting this work. Topics covered include: Environmental Methods & Measurements, Environmental Models, Risk Assessment, ORD Regional Science Program, Technical Support, ORD Science, Inventory of EPA Science Activities, Science Policy Workgroups, Databases, and ORD Scientific Meetings.
Center for Subsurface Modeling Support »
The Center for Subsurface Modeling Support (CSMoS) provides public domain ground-water and vadose zone modeling software and services to public agencies and private companies throughout the nation. CSMoS is located in Ada, Oklahoma at the National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL), the U.S. EPA's Center for Ground-Water Research. The primary aims of CSMoS are to provide direct technical support to EPA and State decision makers in subsurface model applications and to manage and support the ground-water models and databases resulting from the research at NRMRL.
EPA Technical Support Centers »
EPA's Technical Support Project supports five Technical Support Centers: Ground Water and Ecosystems Restoration; Microbiological and Chemical Exposure Assessment Research; Technology Support Center for Monitoring and Site Characterization; Air and Radiation; Land Remediation and Pollution Control.
Remote Sensing Technical Support »
The Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) performs remote sensing to support the EPA Regional and Program Offices and Laboratories, and researches the development of existing and new remote sensing systems and their potential application to EPA needs.
Ground Water Technical Support Center »
The Ground Water Technical Support Center (GWTSC) provides support on issues regarding subsurface contamination, contaminant fluxes to other media (e.g., surface water or air), and ecosystem restoration.
Superfund and Technology Liaison (STL) Program »
The mission of the national Superfund and Technology Liaison (STL) program is to facilitate the sound use of science and technology in decision making for hazardous waste programs. The Program was created in 1990 jointly by the Office of Research and Development (ORD), the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER), and the regional offices to expand the technical support available to regional staff.
Watershed and Water Quality Modeling Technical Support Center »
The Center which is part of EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) is committed to providing access to technically defensible tools and approaches that can be used in the development of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL), waste load allocations, and watershed protection plans.
