EPA Regional Administrator Jared Blumenfeld awarded Valley Chrome Plating (VCP) for its accomplishments under the National Partnership for Environmental Priorities program. VCP produces chrome plated parts for trucks and other vehicles. Lead anodes at the facility have been switched for graphite ones and hexavalent chromium replaced with the more environmentally friendly trivalent chromium. These advancements have resulted in the reduction of these harmful chemicals by 9,000 pounds per year—protecting the environment and worker exposure. The visit also included a tour of the innovative plating facility.
Blumenfeld also visited Fresno State to tour the Center for Irrigation Technology's state of the art hydraulics lab to discuss efforts within the industry to create jobs and meet with students to discuss the campus organic farm. The day will conclude with a community forum to discuss drinking water issues in rural communities. Acting Assistant Administrator for the Office of Water, Nancy Stoner joined Blumenfeld for these events.
