This resource guide is a joint effort among U.S. EPA Region 5 and other federal agencies to identify resources available to tribes for integrated waste management in Indian country. The purpose of this guide is to aid tribal and federal agency staff to better coordinate individual federal resources to address tribal waste issues. Resources are organized by financial assistance, technical assistance, and direct implementation responsibilities of federal agencies that support or impact tribal waste management issues. The information compiled is relevant to a variety of tribal administrative departments: administration, environmental, housing, planning, utility, community and economic development, etc. Tribes are encouraged to coordinate amongst their own departments and various federal partners to leverage these resources while developing components of their integrated waste management programs. Information in this guide is organized by:
Table 1: Matrix Table - corresponds specific issues or activities related to integrated waste management with the appropriate federal agency, and summarizes the types of resources offered. Each term is linked to a summary of relevant federal agencies and their programs that support or impact that issue or activity.
Table 2: Agency Programs Table - lists federal agencies and their respective financial and technical assistance and direct implementation of regulatory authorities or program activities. Each link is connected to a summary of these resources that will further direct users to the appropriate federal websites for more information.
Table 3: EPA Program Table - lists EPA Region 5 programs and their respective financial and technical assistance and direct implementation of regulatory authorities or program activities. Each link is connected to a summary of these EPA resources that will further direct users to the appropriate websites for more information.
