The figure above is a map of one street in our study site where
we were able to measure soil in 19 of the 24 yards.
- All but two of the homes on these properties were older wood frame structures (~100 yrs. old).
- All but two of the yards required some degree of soil intervention.
- Average yard soil lead values range from 214 to 3396 ppm lead.
- The two lowest observed values are associated with new building construction on each property. Soils in these yards were most likely disturbed and/or turned over during the construction process.
- Elevated levels of lead in soil are a common occurrence in urban environments that are the sites of older, wood frame buildings.
