Notable Mid-Atlantic Wetland Site - Prime Hook, Delaware

The Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge is located on the western shore of the Delaware Bay and encompasses 10,000 acres of important coastal and upland habitat for migratory birds, whose health and protection is the refuge's top priority. The refuge is located on the Atlantic Flyway , and during fall migration has hosted up to 80,000 ducks and 100,000 snow geese . The refuge includes 4,200 acres of freshwater marsh and 2,300 acres of tidal marsh. It also is home to the federally endangered Delmarva fox squirrel and the world's largest population of spawning horseshoe crabs.
