Selection Letter from David Gardiner to Chuck Williams
UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20460
November 13, 1995
Chuck Williams, Commissioner
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
520 Lafayette Rd. N
St. Paul, Minnesota 55155-4194
Dear Commissioner Williams:
I am pleased to inform you that your proposal to conduct a state-level
Project XL pilot in Minnesota has been selected to enter the development
phase of the XL process. Project XL was developed to test innovative
environmental management strategies and, through this process, nurture
"eXcellence and Leadership" in environmental protection. Your
proposal is among the first selected because we believe it shows great
potential to accomplish those goals by looking at activities within
an entire state. We are excited to begin working with you to forge a
partnership that leads to a new era of environmental protection.
We recognize that a partnership of this nature requires establishing
new ground rules in our relationships. We look forward to developing
a model with you that could be replicated by other states. You will
be contacted very soon by Shirley Mitchell from EPA Region V to begin
discussing the next steps.
We are pleased to be working with you in a process that holds such promise
for the future of environmental protection.
Sincerely,
David Gardiner
Assistant Administrator
