Project XL
This site is the archive for information about EPA's Project XL (eXcellence in Leadership). EPA began Project XL in 1995 and accepted projects until 2002. This national pilot program was an effort to help business, state and local governments, and federal facilities work with EPA to develop and test innovative approaches to achieve better and more cost-effective environmental and public health protection. EPA ultimately developed over 50 environmental innovation pilot projects under Project XL.
