Objective
The workgroup will focus on pollinator protection related to the following themes:
- Initial, science-based risk management approaches, including appropriate labeling restrictions and training;
- Development of information on state approaches and authorities;
- Transfer of lessons learned by various stakeholders to improve existing management practices;
- Continuing international communication;
- Other issues the Agency wishes to bring to the workgroup’s attention.
Background
At the April, 2011 meeting of the PPDC, EPA decided to form this work group to provide input to the PPDC on pollinator protection related to the following themes: 1) initial science- based risk management approaches, including appropriate label restrictions and training; 2) development of information on state approaches and authorities; 3) transfer of lessons learned by various stakeholders to improve existing management practices; 4) continuing international communication; and 5) other issues the agency wishes to bring to the work group’s attention.
The Pollinator Protection Work Group will represent a broad array of stakeholders from federal and state governments; industry and trade associations; pesticide user and farmer representatives; beekeepers, environmental and public interest groups; academia; and the general public. Through this PPDC Work Group, we want to continue to foster meaningful communication with our stakeholders as well as provide an opportunity for a clearer understanding of a broad array of pollinator and pesticide issues, many of which are often scientifically and technically complex.
