Summary
The U.S. EPA and Consumer Specialty Products Association invite interested stakeholders to participate in a laboratory-based technical workshop that will focus on several key test methods for evaluating the efficacy of disinfectants. The sessions will cover the efficacy testing of products with claims against spores of Clostridium difficile, the new Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Quantitative Method for Evaluating Bactericidal Activity, the ASTM Quantitative Petri Dish method for evaluating the efficacy of antimicrobial wipes and other important methods related to efficacy requirements for registration of antimicrobials under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act. Demonstrations and training will be conducted in a laboratory setting. We will also discuss editorial and procedural revisions to other efficacy test methods such as the AOAC Use-dilution method. The results from the recent collaborative study with the OECD method (Mycobacterium terrae) and the Single Tube Method for biofilms will be presented. Implementation strategies for new and revised methods for performance testing of antimicrobials will also be provided. Stakeholders are expected to actively participate by providing relevant data and sharing their experiences working with these test methods.
Who Should Attend: This is a technical meeting for individuals with experience in conducting antimicrobial test methods or who plan to conduct these methods in the future. The agency is encouraging participation from a cross-section of affected parties including industry, federal and state partners and contract testing laboratories.
Participants must be knowledgeable of Biosafety Level II and III safety practices and procedures for working in a laboratory in order to participate in the laboratory demonstrations and training.
