Civic/Nonprofit Organization - 1st Place: Armand Bayou -  Volunteer Erin McNabb of Houston plants California bulrush as part of the Intertidal Marsh Restoration project at Armand Bayou Coastal Preserve project near Houston. The goal of the Community-Based Habitat Restoration project was to spread populations of the plant into open-water areas of the bayou.

Civic/Nonprofit Organization - 1st Place: Down Under, Out Yonder - Marlene Horace dives the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary while participating in Down Under, Out Yonder, a multi-day workshop for educators which includes lectures about fish identification, coral reef ecology, offshore energy production and the NOAA National Marine Sanctuary Program.

Civic/Nonprofit Organization - 1st Place: Oyster Gardening - Kim Hamilton, project leader of the Shellfish Restoration Project on
Dauphin Island, Alabama, shows some of the thousands of oysters raised as part of the project. Volunteers participated by growing oysters from spat to maturity in cages extended from backyard piers all along Mississippi Sound. Project leaders collected the mature oysters and deposited them at specific sites in the sound to help restore historic oyster beds.

Civic/Nonprofit Organization - 1st Place: Multicultural Education Science & Spanish Club Network- Middle school students from the Gulf of Mexico Foundation Science and Spanish Club Network participate in a science field trip aboard a research vessel for a hands-on investigative cruise. The Science and Spanish Club Network, organized and sponsored by the Gulf of Mexico Foundation, is funded by grants from the Texas General Land Office, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Environmental Protection Administration.
