Photo by Carrie Robertson: Oyster Gardening - Kim Hamilton, project leader of the Shellfish Restoration Project on Dauphin Island, Alabama, shows some of the thousands of oysters raised as part of the project. Volunteers participated by growing oysters from spat to maturity in cages extended from backyard piers all along Mississippi Sound. Project leaders collected the mature oysters and deposited them at specific sites in the sound to help restore historic oyster beds.
