The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Northern Gulf of Mexico Regional Sediment Management (NGOM-RSM) Demonstration Program was started in October 1999 at the USACE South Atlantic Division, Mobile District (SAM) to implement regional sediment management concepts into District project planning, design, construction, and monitoring. This project changed the domain of coastal, estuarine, and riverine sediment management from project-specific to a regional approach in which partnering and coordination with state and local agencies was achieved.
