NEMC 2003 - Protecting People and the Environment Through Environmental Monitoring
NEMC is the new name for the venerable Waste Testing and Quality Assurance (WTQA) Symposium. The name change reflects WTQA's growth and diversification and our commitment to provide you a forum for addressing policy and technical issues that affect monitoring in all media and across all environmental programs. The 19th conference was held July 21-24, 2003 at the Hilton Hotel in Crystal City, Arlington ,VA. No proceedings are available.
WTQA 2002 - Sound Science Through Effective Project Planning
The 18th Annual Waste Testing and Quality Assurance (WTQA) symposium was held August 10 -15, 2002 at the Crystal City Hilton Hotel in Arlington, VA. The theme was "Sound Science Through Effective Project Planning". The 2002 Proceedings are available only on CD-ROM. WTQA 2001 - Effective Environmental Information
The 17th Annual Waste Testing and Quality Assurance (WTQA) symposium was held August 12 - 16, 2001 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. WTQA 2000 - Environmental Sampling and Analysis in the 21st Century
The 16th Annual Waste Testing and Quality Assurance (WTQA) symposium was held August 5-10, 2000 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. Public Meeting on Waste Leaching
In conjunction with the 1999 WTQA symposium, the Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery held a Public Meeting on the Development of New Waste Leaching Procedures. What is the NEMC?
As part of its efforts to increase the role of the scientific community in implementation of monitoring under the RCRA and CERCLA programs, EPA joined in a partnership with other organizations to annually sponsor the NEMC symposium. The symposium was initiated in 1985 as the Waste Testing and Quality Assurance (WTQA) symposium as part of EPA's efforts to foster a partnership among the Agency, the regulated community, the public, state regulatory agencies, and the other members of the RCRA and CERCLA monitoring community. NEMC has three goals:
- to serve as a forum for all interested parties to work together to solve RCRA and CERCLA environmental monitoring and waste characterization problems in a cost-effective manner,
- to give state regulatory agencies and the public timely information about EPA activities that might affect their programs, and
- to permit the members of the monitoring community an opportunity to exchange information and experiences in using both existing and new monitoring methods and approaches.

Presenting a Paper
Presenting a paper at the NEMC provides an opportunity to show your laboratory
clients the depth of your experience and your expertise in using new,
more cost-effective monitoring approaches. You can also show new technologies
to potential developers, help improve the quality of the nation's environmental
monitoring, and share obstacles so that solutions might be found.
EPA encourages regulatory agencies, regulated entities, laboratories,
and other members of the commercial and academic communities to submit
papers. The call for papers typically occurs in December or January, with
abstracts due back by February or March. Symposium is usually held in
either late July or August.
