Manuals and Guidebooks
- Final Guidance on Demonstrating Compliance with the LDR Alternative Soil Treatment Standards, July 2002 (PDF) (57 pp, 313K)
- Land Disposal Restrictions:
Summary of Requirements, August 2001 (PDF) (19 pp, 896K)
- The Waste Analysis at Facilities that Generate, Treat, Store and Dispose of Hazardous Wastes: A Guidance Manual (PDF) (200 pp, 1.4MB) assists facility owners and operaters, as well as other facility personnel, prepare waste analysis plans (WAPs) and conduct waste analyses. This manual is designed for all facility personnel regardless of their level of experience in environmental compliance issues.
- The Guidebook for Quality Assurance/Quality Control Procedures for Submission of Data for the Land Disposal Restrictions Program (PDF) (58 pp, 4.0MB) explains how to generate data which characterizes the performance of hazardous waste treatment systems in terms of the composition of treated hazardous waste streams plus treatment system operation and design.
- Best Management Practices (BMPs)
for Soil Treatment Technologies: Suggested Operational Guidelines to
Prevent Cross-media Transfer of Contaminants During Clean-up Activities
(May 1997) (166 pp, 1.2MB) This document provides guidance on how to design and
conduct soil remediation activities at RCRA and other hazardous waste
sites so that transfers of contaminants from contaminated soil to other
media are minimized.
Variance Assistance
- The Variance Assistance Document:
Land Disposal Restrictions Treatability Variances and Determinations
of Equivalent Treatment (PDF) (18 pp, 37K) assists petitioners in submitting complete applications
for either a determination of equivalent treatment or a treatability
variance. This document explains these tools and discusses cases where
they can be applied. It also details EPAs requirements for each
type of petition and provides an overview of EPAs petition review
process.

state's process of becoming authorized to implement hazardous waste
regulations.
- Management of Remediation Waste
under RCRA, October 1998 (PDF) (13 pp, 46K) Rapid clean up of RCRA corrective action
facilities and Superfund sites is one of the Agency's highest priorities.
To assist you in successfully implementing RCRA requirements for remediation
waste, this memorandum consolidates existing guidance on the RCRA regulations
and policies that most often affect remediation waste management.
- Guidance Memo: Use of Site-Specific
Land Disposal Restriction Treatability Variances Under 40 CFR 268.44(h)
During Cleanups (Text) - This memorandum clarifies the minimum requirements
for alternative treatment standards and outlines treatability variance
procedures.
