Publish Date: 02/10/2020

Summary

EPA is issuing a notice of proposed action under the Clean Water Act. EPA is proposing to issue a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit renewal (No. AZ0022829) to Sunrise Park Resort—White Mountain Apache Tribe for the discharge of treated wastewater from the Sunrise Day Lodge wastewater treatment plant located approximately 12 miles west of Greer, Apache County, Arizona, within the boundaries of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.

The Sunrise Day Lodge treatment plant receives domestic sewage from the Sunrise Day Lodge, a restaurant, Sunrise Park offices, and an employee residential housing for a design flow rate of 0.076 million gallons per day. Secondary treatment is provided using an activated sludge package system comprised of preliminary influent grinding, flow equalization, aeration, clarification, and disinfection with calcium hypochlorite tablets in the clarifier overflow channel, and dechlorination with sodium sulfite tablets in the effluent structure. Treated effluent is discharged to East Becker Creek via a vegetated buffer area and drainage channel to East Becker Creek, which is a tributary to Becker Creek and the North Fork of the White River.
