Water Conservation Innovation at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery
Sacramento Valley National Cemetery
As part of its efforts under the Federal Green Challenge, Sacramento Valley National Cemetery:
- Purchased an Irrigation Control System and Moisture Monitoring Sensor and to reduce water use and measure the moisture of the turf areas and determine when watering is necessary.
- Used active management to re-program and turn off the irrigation system after rain events.
- Audited sprinkler system and re-aligned all irrigation heads to ensure that no water was wasted by improper distribution or watering the roadways – something we should all do in our businesses and homes.
- Cut water used for landscaping by 22% in just one year -- nearly 14 million gallons (FY14 compared to FY13).
- In addition, potable water also dropped nearly 100,000 gallons.
