CHICAGO (August 29, 2017) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has started an asbestos cleanup at the former Hudepohl Brewery site at 801 W. Sixth St. in Cincinnati.

EPA will remove asbestos waste from inside the old boiler house and clean up a large outdoor debris pile containing asbestos material. The agency estimates the cleanup will take about six months and cost $1.8 million.

The site has been vacant since the brewery closed in 1987 after more 100 years in operation. Last spring, the Greater Cincinnati Redevelopment Authority requested EPA’s assistance to evaluate the risks posed by the deteriorating building.
