U.S. EPA to Announce Millions to Improve Local Water Infrastructure, Reduce Pollution Statewide
Agency highlights upgrades to treatment plant in Imperial County
LOS ANGELES – Tomorrow, U.S. EPA’s Water Division Director, Tomás Torres will announce millions in funding to California that will improve local water infrastructure and control water pollution statewide. The funding will be used for a variety of water quality projects to reduce water pollution, improve wastewater infrastructure and make facilities more sustainable by increasing water and energy efficiency.
In addition, EPA will highlight $14 million in federal and state funding used to upgrade the City of Holtville’s wastewater treatment plant. The upgrades will allow the treatment plant to come into compliance with discharge standards for ammonia, bacteria and other pollutants. Once completed, the project will improve treatment service for the 6,594 residents in Holtville, located 11 miles east of El Centro in Imperial County.
