MEDIA ADVISORY: U.S. EPA Administrator to Spotlight Safer Choice Label with Green Cleaning Champions
More than 2,000 products currently qualify to carry the Safer Choice label
SAN FRANCISCO – On Thursday, April 28, U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will join Cole Hardware’s President, Rick Karp, and Greenopia’s Founder/CEO, Gay Browne, to highlight the importance of using cleaning products that are safer for people and the environment. Administrator McCarthy will also be announcing the 2016 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awardees.
EPA recently developed Safer Choice labels—the first federal label for cleaning products—to make it easier for consumers and businesses to choose products that meet EPA's safer product standards. Every chemical in a Safer Choice-labeled product is evaluated through EPA’s rigorous scientific process and only the safest ingredients are allowed.
Safer Choice products are available in local grocery stores and hardware stores, and include cleaners for use at home, offices, schools, hotels and sports venues. Along with protecting human health, Safer Choice-labeled products are less toxic to fish and other aquatic life and they break down more quickly through natural processes, so they are less likely to become part of the food chain or damage the ecosystem.
