DALLAS – (Aug. 15, 2017) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently awarded the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) a performance partnership grant of $1,592,713 for administering a variety of pollution-control programs.

“Environmental protection is a partnership between EPA and states,” said Administrator Scott Pruitt. “These types of grants will allow LDEQ to effectively and efficiently produce results for the people of Louisiana.”

“Supporting the environmental protection work of states is an important part of EPA’s mission,” said Acting Regional Administrator Sam Coleman. “This grant gives Louisiana flexibility to meet its goals.”

“Performance Partnership grants from EPA provide our agency with critically needed funding to administer programs delegated to us by EPA. Without this financial support, LDEQ could not continue to oversee these programs,” said LDEQ Secretary Dr. Chuck Carr Brown.

The funds will go toward a variety of LDEQ environmental programs to monitor, reduce and control hazardous and solid waste, air pollution and water pollution. Because the grant can apply to different programs, LDEQ can use the funds to address cross-cutting issues.

Performance partnership grants are important tools for EPA to provide financial assistance to states and tribes. These grants allow recipients to use EPA awards with greater flexibility for priority environmental problems or program needs, streamline paperwork and accounting procedures to reduce administrative costs, and try cross-program initiatives and approaches that were difficult to fund under traditional category grants.
