6PM: EPA Administrator joining Georgetown Discussion on Pope Francis Encyclical and the Environment
WASHINGTON - Today, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy will participate in a panel discussion on the moral and policy implications of Pope's Francis' Encyclical on the Environment hosted by the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University. The Administrator will focus on EPA's efforts to fight climate change through the Clean Power Plan and the need to act on climate in order to protect those most vulnerable to air pollution, flooding and extreme weather.
The Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life promotes the education of a new generation of Catholic lay leaders and engages a broad dialogue about Catholic Social Thought across a wide range of contemporary policy challenges. Today's panel discussion will examine the ways the Pope's Encyclical connects environmental issues to the poor and disadvantaged and how that connection will impact policy decisions in the US and around the world.
