Summary

EPA is soliciting public comments on its proposal to issue a federal Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class I Non-hazardous Industrial Waste Disposal Well Permit to San Joaquin Refinery Company, Inc. (SJR), located in Bakersfield, CA. The permit would authorize SJR to continue operating one (1) active, existing well: WD-1, and potentially install one (1) proposed additional well: WD-2. The UIC Class I Permit, if issued, would authorize injection of non-hazardous waste generated from the San Joaquin Refinery into the Santa Margarita Formation, at depths ranging between 4,020’ to 4,225’ below ground surface, over a ten (10) year period.
