Synoptic Strategies and New Indicators as Tools in Future Assessment Methodology

We are focused on advancing monitoring strategies and indicator development to shape future assessments. We present new perspectives in designing and implementing surveys for monitoring the condition of natural resources in order to meet assessment needs at multiple scales of observation. Electronic sensor technology has made dramatic improvements in the past decade and now provide new tools for observing biological organisms and water quality. Increased awareness of the information content of sensor data and their potential applications advocates for their utility and incorporation into the next generation of assessment methodologies. This presentation highlights a) various alternatives in the analysis of biological sensor data for new indicators and b) the use of instrument arrays to enhance ecological assessments.
