THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY'S ROLE IN
ECOSYSTEM MANAGEMENT
William D. Franz |
The United States Environmental Protection Agency's traditional role in ecosystem management has been in the areas of regulation and enforcement of environmental laws. In 1990, the Agency examined this role over its twenty year history and found numerous accomplishments.
However, much more needs to be done. In the report "Unfinished Business", the Agency identified the loss of species and habitat as areas that needed attention. Today, the Agency is identifying and defining its role in the area of ecosystem management, specifically, moving from a "program-driven" to a "place-driven" approach.
