The velocity calculator indicates that groundwater is traveling at a rate of 1.38 feet per day and that MTBE movement will be retarded with respect to groundwater by a factor of 1.01 for an MTBE velocity of 1.36 ft per day.

With MTBE still present in the NAPL source, and a minimum transit time of 3 years since the spill occurred, it is clear that the second transect should be in the heart of the MTBE plume--450 feet to the source, advective velocity of 1.36 ft/day (496 ft/year). But the field data show that the concentrations were low.
