Bellflower

EPA Region 9 awarded two grants totaling $1,234,300 to the City of Bellflower, California for drinking water infrestructure projects. Bellflower proposed a project of three components intended to improve its drinking water system; upgrades to the existing drinking water supply piping, construction of a new pipeline to interconnect Bellflower with another sorce of drinking water within the city, and the construction of a new high-capacity water well. During the well development, Bellflower learned that it could be capable of producing more water than initially anticipated. In order to pump more water from this well, Bellflower proposed to use a larger, above-ground pump instead of a submersible pump. Bellflower plans to enclose the pump and its appurtenances in a masonry block structure, and will replace an existing iron fence between the structure and adjacent rail corridor and residences with a concrete block wall. We have amended the original Categorical Exclusion, signed in March 2009, to evaluate the potential effects of changes and to confirm that the Categorical Exclusion remains appropriate.
