Safe disposal of waste is a critical part of protecting the environment. EPA works with California EPA and local governments to permit and monitor waste disposal facilities in southern California. We also focus on helping generators to reduce their waste by updating operations and recycling as much as possible, providing assistance through EPA Partnership programs. Reducing waste saves energy and prevents future environmental impacts. In some cases, facilities are even able to achieve zero waste (exit) generation.

We also assist facilities with questions about complying with federal waste rules and take enforcement actions against violators. By targeting many of our inspections at facilities which pose the greatest risk to sensitive populations, we achieve greater compliance and safer communities.
