EPA Administrator's Visit to California

Main Page »

In March 2011, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, joined by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and U.S. Representative Karen Bass visited Stella Middle Charter Academy in the West Adams area of Los Angeles to discuss with teachers and students the school’s adoption of an environmental curriculum and its commitment to children’s health.

Administrator Jackson was also in northern California to mark California Agriculture Day by visiting local ranches and farms in the San Joaquin Valley. The Administrator met with local growers to explore sustainable growing practices and discuss environmental issues facing the community. The tour included a stop at Terranova Ranch, which combines conventional and organic farming, while also practicing environmentally friendly techniques such as drip irrigation and reduced diesel emissions through the use of electric motors. The second visit was to J&L Vineyards, a family-owned vineyard that actively uses integrated pest management systems.
